Media Release: The Attorney General, Faris Al-Rawi’s Response to the “Terrorist Attack in Manhattan.”
Media Release:
Re: The Attorney General, Faris Al-Rawi’s Response to the “Terrorist Attack in Manhattan.”
Waajihatul Islaamiyyah (The Islamic Front) is having serious issues with the timing and sentiments expressed in media release dated 31st October 2017, by the AG in responding to what is being dubbed as the terrorist attack in Manhattan during similar and even more gruesome and heartless attacks on innocent Civilians by the rogue nations like America, Israel, Britain, Russia and Myanmar (Burma) to name a few. Waajihatul Islaamiyyah (The Islamic Front) does not condone nor encourage any such action on civilians. This dreadful and senseless attack in Manhattan on the innocents deserves nothing less than the strongest condemnation and the stiffest of penalties but that does not absolve the right of any individual more so a government Minister or Ministers from recognizing other such tragedies like those dastardly and cowardly act perpetrated on civilians by the very governments that cry out in the face of such evil. The Muslim community of Trinidad and Tobago and the Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi came from the same household and even though we have all followed different paths our father Ibrahim (AS) taught us and inspired us to stand by what we believe is right. Not only did he question the illogical practices of his fellowmen, knowing that his was the voice of reason, he actively made attempts to guide his people towards the right path. And above all, when he was met with hatred and rejection by the people, he never lost confidence in the truth. Prophet Ibrahim (AS) had confidence and faith. He knew his beliefs were backed by reason, and so he had nothing to fear. This is the legacy of our father and this is the legacy we were bound to follow.
Waajihatul Islaamiyyah (The Islamic Front) is questioning why since assuming office in 2015 our brother; the Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi never condemned those attacks on innocent’s civilians perpetrated by those nations, named? From 2015 to October 2017, 35,084 civilians a quarter of which are women and children, have been killed in Syria. Of the civilians killed in 2016 alone, 2,574 were children under the age of 18 and a further 1,944 were women. Presently; 2017 Death Count stands at 7,203. The United States has killed nearly 30 Muslims for every American lost.
Where is the press release condemning the ethnic cleansing in Myanmar where killings, torture, rape and arson is being reported daily?
Where is the press release condemning the US airstrikes on the Syrian village of Manbij 19th July 2016, killing 117 including 35 children and 20 women.
Where is the press release condemning the 4 million innocent civilians the United States and their allies have killed during their so called “War on Terror?
Where is the press release condemning the air strikes on five medical buildings and two schools in Aleppo and Idlib 15th February 2016?
Where is the press release condemning Israel’s aggression and illegal occupation and the blatant disregard of the many UN resolutions and America’s support of it?
Mainstream media has also failed to acknowledge that the Islamic State groups' alleged attacks like the one in Manhattan could ultimately be blamed on Washington, because the extremist group was created by them, according to a recent Global Research study.
“Much like al-Qaida, the Islamic State is made-in-the-USA, an instrument of terror designed to divide and conquer the oil-rich Middle East and to counter Iran’s growing influence in the region,” the Center for Research on Globalization wrote.
They continued, “Just like many U.S. interventions into the sovereignty of other countries, Washington's foreign policy in the Middle East has backfired.”
They went on to write that, “the fact that the United States has a long and torrid history of backing terrorist groups will surprise only those who watch the news and ignore history.”
A prominent English journalist put it quite simply. “If the United States wants to improve its image in the Islamic world,” he said, “it should stop killing Muslims.”
Considering all this Waajihatul Islaamiyyah (The Islamic Front) is calling their brother; the Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi and the government to condemn all such attacks, especially if perpetrated by the nation that boast of being the flag bearer of democracy. Do this and you would not appear to be unjust and hypocritical.

A Fallacious Tale of Hypocrisy, Semantics and Propaganda
A Fallacious Tale of Hypocrisy,
Semantics and Propaganda
By: Umar Abdullah
Date: October 4, 2017
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) found the international coalition forces, led by the US, Under the TRUMP administration, killed 260 civilians, including 70 children and 34 women when a school and market was bombed in Mosul in March of this year, 2017. In this same month, reports of civilian deaths from US air strikes across Syria and Iraq soared to an all-time high, according to AIRWARS, a British monitoring group, which found there were 1,472 casualties linked to US air strikes in March.
The deadliest mass shooting in US history: A 72-minute killing spree that left 59 dead and over five hundred injured in Las Vegas in what can only be described as an unlawful, Horrific and evil, systematic use of violence and intimidation, against the American people was an act of Terrorism. This was an attempt to create terror and fear. We are seeing from this tragic episode the photos of those killed and stories of their lives told, but where were the photos of those high soaring numbers of dead women and children uncovered in Syria and Iraq?
The author and perpetrator of this dastardly act; Stephen Paddock a multimillionaire who had recently wired $100,000 to the Philippines, where his girlfriend Marilou Danley and her family lived, was found dead with an arsenal of weapons, enough to fill 10 large suitcases, with more than ten rifles, 23 guns, including a Kalashnikov and AR-15 assault rifles, a vast and a stockpile of military grade .223 calibre ammunition. Another arms cache including 19 weapons, several pounds of a commercially available explosive, and thousands of rounds of ammunition was found at his home in Mesquite, 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas. They found traces of ammonium nitrate fertilizer, which can be used to make homemade bombs, in his car.
Despite all this Donald Trump calls this an “act of pure evil” - how can anyone be more fallacious than that? A mere couple days ago when a Somali refugee; Abdulahi Hasan Sharif, armed with a knife and a flag, ran down four pedestrians and struck and injured four others, everyone was quick to call it a terrorist attack.
Reports are now claiming, The Islamic State terror group claimed Paddock converted to Islam a few months ago, reports say, they said the attack, was carried out by a “soldier” of the caliphate and was done “in response to calls to target coalition countries.” In another statement released hours later, ISIS referred to Paddock as Abu Abd al-Barr al-Amriki and said he answered a call to arms by its leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
Well I guess we all know where this baseless propaganda is going to lead us. Yes! right back to where we started, meaning, if Stephen Paddock is a white American Christian, his crime will be labeled as an "act of pure evil" But if is name now becomes, Abu Abd al-Barr al-Amriki, his crime will be labeled as an "act of terrorism".

Media Release: In Response to Senior Suprintendent Kenny Mc Intyre's denial of a “Hit List”,
Media Release:
Re: In Response to Senior Suprintendent Kenny Mc Intyre's denial of a “Hit List”,
Waajihatul Islaamiyyah (The Islamic Front) is shocked and surprised by the way Senior Supderintendant Kenny Mc Intyre has responded to questions posed to him on whether there is a "hit list" the police are targeting for execution from Enterprise area.
He is either naive or knowingly covering up for dirty cops. He says that police are not executioners and are there to "uphold the law." He says, “we don't execute people, we are not in the execution business. We are upholding the law and if one breaks the law we will issue a warrant for arrest and arrest that person.”
Waajihatul Islaamiyyah is saying the officer responsible for the killing of Jelani Martins has broken the law and should be called to account for his actions, as in the case of Govinda Morgan, the security guard who was charged for shooting to death ex-convict Vern Sambury.
We have evidence that some police officers have appointed themselves judge, jury and executioner in an alarming number of cases.
The following should be a lesson to Kenny Mc Intyre as to the reasons why he needs to be better informed before he opens his mouth:
- In August of 2016 National Security Minister Edmund Dillon said: "... They should not be allowed to live normal lives... We should harass them. Quite frankly we should make their lives untenable .. So, I have instructed my agencies within the National Security to identify and find out that 2% of individuals..."
Less than 3 months after on 19th Oct 2016 Adele Gilbert was unlawfully shot and killed by police.
- In 2004 Opposition Senator Roy Augustus asked then Minister of National Security Martin Joseph to respond to allegations that a police hit squad is in operation. following the death of 18-year-old Sherman Monsegue who, contrary to police reports, residents insist was unarmed. he said, “I hope the Minister of National Security will deny the existence of a death squad in the Police Service. There seems to be some evidence of it.”
- In July 2007, a parliamentary Joint Select Committee issued a report which was highly critical of the Police Service. The report highlighted a disturbingly high number of disciplinary charges against officers, a need to combat the increased levels of indiscipline within the Police Service and a "serious lack of accountability from top to bottom" in the police force.
- In July 2008, Acting Commissioner of Police James Philbert acknowledged that the Police Service owed the nation an apology for the poor quality of policing experienced by some sectors of society over the years.
- On January 3, 2010, an unarmed Tristan Cobbler was shot dead by police. Later in that same year the deputy commissioner of police acknowledged that it would be "a monumental task" to transform the Police Service."
- In 2011 there were the cold-blooded killings of Kerron Fernando Eccles, Abigail Johnson, and Alana Duncan in Barrackpore.
- Also in 2011, the Crime and Problem Analysis (CAPA) department of the Police Service, showed the number of extrajudicial killings increased consistently over the previous decade, adding that such cases were being cited by regional and international human rights organisations as a blot on the country. Amnesty International has also produced a report on the killings in Trinidad and Tobago, on the topic "Excessive use of force by the security forces and lack of independent investigations".
- On June 21, 2004, Keshorn Daniel was shot and killed by members of the Inter Agency Task Force. Later in that same year, The University of the West Indies professor of International Relations Andy Knight said - Trinidad and Tobago is not immune to extrajudicial killings by police. “Our young men are being mowed down on a too frequent basis. The underlying motive may not be racism. But there seems to be a tendency by some police to see some of these young men as less than human in many cases,” he said.
- In 2013 while the Country Reports on Human Rights Practices in Trinidad and Tobago highlighted the arbitrary or unlawful deprivation of Life, Christopher Greaves who was unarmed in that same year was shot and killed by police.
- On July 24th, 2015 security guard Anita Bartholomew told investigators that an unarmed Allan “Scanny” Martin was shot dead by police, seriously injuring her in the process to the point where she was almost killed.
- In December of 2016 the Police Service came under some harsh criticism, when the director of the Police Complaints Authority (PCA) David West said more than 30 such police killings had taken place in this country since 2010, but no officer has yet to be held to account in any of those cases. “None of them have gone to court or been convicted,” he said. “The Police Service is the biggest gang in Trinidad and Tobago and they are left untouched,” he added. West said Trinidad and Tobago has become a lawless society and the country does not have the capabilities to deal with crime and corruption.
- On 18th Feb 2017, there was the questionable death of Mickel “Buckman” Lancaster.
- Jelani Martins' killing on 21st July 2017 at the hands of the police left a young wife and a five-month-old baby in mourning.
The executive director of The Caribbean Centre for Human Rights, Diana Mahabir-Wyatt, says it is relevant today as it was in 2011 when 29 people were killed by the police in Trinidad and Tobago. A report coming out of that organisation says: "The Caribbean Centre for Human Rights in Trinidad and Tobago has been counting, with mounting alarm, the number of such killings in Trinidad and Tobago as well.
It continues by saying "Anyone who contravenes the law, whether police or civilian, and, in so doing, ends the life of another person deserves to be justly punished. The principles of natural justice demand that the punishment be determined by due process of law, not by gang-inspired or police-inspired acts of extrajudicial vengeance.
We know that police officers are paid to protect communities against armed bandits and warring gangs, among other brutalities.
In the course of so doing, police sometimes do get fired on by desperate men and do have to fire back.
That is part of the price we pay for living in a society where guns are cheap and plentiful and where people are taught violence as a way of life in their own homes and communities from childhood.
We pay an even greater price when, for reasons of revenge and anger, we ignore the rules of natural justice and the human rights of other people, innocent or guilty, as they may be. In turn, they will soon be ignoring our human rights as well."

Media Release: The Extrajudicial Killing of Jelani Sajjad Martins.
Media Release:
Re: The Extrajudicial Killing of Jelani Sajjad Martins.
The extrajudicial killing of Jelani Martins is not sitting well with Waajihatul Islaamiyyah (The Islamic Front). This act of homicide by the TTPS is going to tarnish and deliver a heavy blow to an already ugly image and will further degrade the public perception of the entire Service. The TTPS has clearly shown its inability to act positively and appropriately to curb the exploding crime rate and the inherent social and economic challenges. The TTPS seems to be evolving into a plague with a purpose to destroy the poor family structure which is the basic building block of society.
From the information received, we are of the firm belief that Officer Khan and his men should be investigated for the homicide of Jelani Martins and the unaccounted $21,500 which he had on his person. Sheldon the car dealer was taken into custody. A story we understand is now being concocted to say Jelani went to Rob Sheldon and Sheldon shot him.
We are calling on the Acting Commissioner of Police to launch an independent investigation into the killing of Jelani Martins and to immediately suspend the officers involved. We have already contacted the head of the PCA; David West who is awaiting an official complaint on Monday. Witnesses and video footage would be made available.
Waajihatul Islaamiyyah (The Islamic Front) would not stand idly by in the face of an act which is bound to erode public trust in our security forces. This approach to battling the challenges of crime and corruption in our nation must be reviewed. Those responsible for this behaviour must be brought to account and pay a heavy price.

Media Release: On The Issue of Crime and Our Daunting Social Challenges
Media Release:
On The Issue of Crime and Our Daunting Social Challenges
255 Murders in 182 days. As these numbers show and with the Increase in crime and public uneasiness, crime, in all its different forms has become a major threat to societal and individual security. There has been less discussion on the role and response of national security mechanisms. Hence, most of the methods used to fight against crime have backfired and fall short of meeting such a challenge. The failure of the Western methods of combating crime and the Increase in impunity of criminals leads one to suggest a solution, which treats criminal activity not piecemeal but in the total scheme of life.
The Islamic concept of security is a very comprehensive one, more comprehensive than any of the other existing systems. It looks at humankind in relation to the universe and the factors influencing it. It encompasses physical, mental, psychological and spiritual domains as integral parts of an overall societal security system.
Islamic teachings do not merely provide solutions to exceptional instances of criminal behavior, but emphatically focus on measures that halt their existence. In other words, Islam executes as many means as possible to avert temptation. While modern societies flaunt temptation – liquor, pornography, violence, etc. – before the people, a true Islamic society removes the sources of these temptations, and when the need for correction emerges, the punishment is serious and effective. If crimes are not countered with serious punishments, then our society will be in grave danger.
Crime has prospered in modern societies because a completely contradictory approach is followed to controlling it.
Waajihatul Islaamiyyah (The Islamic Front) is therefore calling the government to stamp out all forms of temptation that are prevalent and easily accessible and when the time comes for correction or punishment of a crime, the justice system should not be lenient and should be serious. Sentencing should not be biased and protective of the criminal's rights over those of the victim.
Government must take into consideration the changing circumstances of our society as well as the constancy and permanence of the nature of our countrymen.
Waajihatul Islamiyyah (The Islamic Front) is prepared to seek legal injunctions aimed at achieving human welfare, which can all be referred back to universal principles which are necessary for the well-being and security of our citizens. These universal principles are:
1. The preservation of life.
2. The preservation of religion.
3. The preservation of reason.
4. The preservation of lineage.
5. The preservation of property.
Waajihatul Islaamiyyah (The Islamic Front) is working with an objective that would seek to protect our society from the dangers of crime by advocating fairness, equality and justice, also prison and prisoner reform. However, we must bear in mind, the punishment is a recompense for the crime. It is undesirable to treat a criminal lightly who threatens the security of society with danger.
