Media Release Re: Suspected Trinidad and Tobago nationals involved in terrorism

Media Release:

Re: Suspected Trinidad and Tobago nationals whom the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) have said to be involved in terrorism and who are suspected of financing terrorism.

Waajihatul Islaamiyyah (The Islamic Front) holds a different view from that of the present Trinidad and Tobago government administration as regards the 182 suspected nationals whom the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) have said to be involved in terrorism and in particular the 69 who are suspected of financing terrorism. This as it was revealed by Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister and the Office of the Attorney General Stuart Young now raises the question of this government’s motives and how are they going to treat with this information. It appears as though this present administration is allowing itself to be drawn into a war with its own citizen much to their own disadvantage and at the expense and peril of the ordinary man on the streets. Why is the Trinidad and Tobago government allowing other countries to define who we are as a people, why are they allowing other countries to define our laws? What we have existing here in this country is an anti-Reggae hip pop gangster culture mentality and common criminals.

If this present Trinidad and Tobago government under the stewardship of the Honourable Dr Keith Rowley wants to talk terrorism; we must first level the playing field. Let us start by calling those who define us by their rightful names.

Malaysia, March of 2015 Ottawa’s Prof Michel Chossudovsky speaking at the international conference the “New World Order” - A Recipe for War or Peace! Said the so-called war on terror is a front to profligate American global hegemony and create a new world order. He said terrorism is made in the US and that terrorism is not the product of the Muslim world. According to him the US global war on terrorism was used to enact anti-terrorism laws that demonize Muslims in the Western world and to create Islamophobia. Elaborating on his arguments Prof Chossudovsky said that NATO was responsible for recruiting members of the Islamic states.

September 2004 the United Nations secretary general, Kofi Annan, declared explicitly that the US-led war on Iraq was illegal. Mr Annan said that the invasion was not sanctioned by the UN Security Council or in accordance with the UN's founding charter. In an interview with the BBC World Service broadcast, he was asked outright if the war was illegal. He replied: "Yes, if you wish." He then added unequivocally: "I have indicated it was not in conformity with the UN charter. From our point of view and from the charter's point of view it was illegal."

This being the case what then was it? Was it an act of terrorism? and if it was why then was PFC Le Ron Wilson, who was killed in that illegal war honored by attaching his name to Marli Street, Port of Spain, in his memory? The new street sign now reads “PFC Le Ron A. Wilson Way”. According to Trinidad and Tobago government Wouldn’t PFC Le Ron Wilson be classified a terrorist? His name should be removed.

Muslims have been taught by the Quran and their beloved Prophet (Peace Be upon him) to help and assist their brothers and sisters in oppressive situations. America have campaigned and vowed to remove the Assad Regime in Syria; claiming it to be an oppressive dictatorship. Muslims who have gone and is continuing to go and those who have sent aid to those in need are indeed fighting against and supporting the removal of the Assad regime. Wouldn’t this then be considered an act of goodwill and support? So then why the fuss?

The Israeli army which I like to refer to as one of the most; one of the best-trained, best-equipped best-fed Terrorist organizations in the world; yes they have nice generals and have nice uniforms but their entire purpose is terrorism; I’m just referring to one example: Just about 8 years ago Israel began its attack on Gaza September 27, 2008 11:25 in the morning, what has been referred to as the most shameful day in the history of the Jewish people. Israel began carpet bombing Gaza and on the first day of the attack they dropped 100 tons of bombs. A 1 ton bomb will decimate an entire city block. Gaza is one of the most densely populated places in the world, 800,000 children live in Gaza; 11:25am is exactly the time when the morning school shift and the afternoon school shift changes so all the kids are in the streets and that was the moment decided by the decision-makers in Israel to begin the attack. It was the first day of the 21 day slaughter that had absolutely no justification. If that’s not terrorism I don’t know what is. Israel receives about $3 billion in direct foreign assistance each year from America, which is roughly one-fifth of America's entire foreign aid budget. In per capita terms, the United States gives each Israeli a direct subsidy worth about $500 per year and further to this the United States has finalized a $38 billion package of military aid for Israel over the next 10 years. From these accounts it can be deduced that America is funding terrorism.

It’s about time the duly elected government of Trinidad and Tobago starts calling America and Israel by their rightful names and begin doing their homework and investigate properly information coming to them from America. They need to start standing up and protect its citizens and speak out on global issues that affect its people. Muslims groups who have established themselves and is operating within the Twin Island State of Trinidad and Tobago will be damned to remain silent and allow others to interfere with there religious rights and freedom; in a country where every creed and race should find and equal place.

Re: Treatment meted out to our returning Nationals.

Waajihatul Islaamiyyah (The Islamic Front) continues to observe, with great concern - the response of the State following the return of five T&T citizens, who were previously detained in Venezuela for 32 months. We are calling on the AG Police Commissioner; Stephen Williams and the Police Service's Professional Standards Bureau to investigate and Call to account the behaviour, actions and decision of all the officers who detained without due process and questioned our returning nationals from Venezuela.

The public has a right to know that after billions of dollars have been pumped into the National Security apparatus over the past 15 years, there was not an iota of a coherent response from the authorities, with respect to any formal interrogation or informal debrief exercise. Instead, a number of named police officers sought to intimidate the returning citizens, by asking irrelevant, prejudicial, ignorant and un-researched questions about Islam in general and Jihad in particular. This was demeaning and is being viewed as religious discrimination.

This lack of respect having no regards for value and honesty would not be tolerated by the Muslim community and by extension the citizens of this twin island state. The police service showed no compassion and had no empathy to the plight of the families and love-ones who after being drained of their wealth and striped of their rights and self-worth were made to wait and suffer for hours on end to be reunited with their love-ones.

It is indeed laughable that after all this time, law enforcement is unable to carry out a simple fact-finding interview and/or psychological assessment of a civilian. This is not what 21st century policing is all about; its part of a backward decadent mentality that holds the recipe for failure.

With respect to the matter involving Wade Charles. Why were not the family informed of his situation beforehand? Why were they attempting to take him away secretly to San Fernando? This obviously brings into question the public trust and faith in the police service. The police by their actions eroded our confidence placed in them. We are prepared not to let this matter rest until an apology is given and the proper mechanisms are put in place to address the needs and the plight of our returning nationals.

Note: Wade Charles was released on bail yesterday; Wednesday 30th November 2016.
